This is the 8th Anniversary of a special private event up in the Piute Mountains, hosted by Charlie Rowlett (Plonkers President Emeritus). Here it goes in Charlie’s own words:

Location: Piute Mountains (approximately 30 miles SW of Kernville, ca)

Featuring (13) deluxe sections, skill level Sportsman through Expert

Come enjoy a weekend of trials riding, camaraderie, bench racing, and motorcycle fun!  Be ready for something different as the PPFT is not your normal SCTA trials event.  There are no points, no trophies and no checkers.  Instead, it is a unique opportunity to ride thirteen great sections just for fun, for practice, to fine tune your skills, or if you want, to compete (for fun) against a friend or group of friends.

You have lots of options – you may ride each section the way you would in a regular trial (and keep score yourself), or you can pick and choose your favorite sections, ride a combination of different skill lines, or ride a single section as many times as you want.  You can even ride the sections in reverse, it’s your choice!  The terrain is a pine tree forest at 6500’, with plenty of turns, rocks, turns, logs, soft dirt, turns, more rocks, steps, and a few more turns.  Why so many turns?  Statistically, 91.8 % of all dabs occur when turning.  (OK, I made that stat up, but think about it).  So come on up and polish your turning skills, while enjoying a laid-back, cool forest atmosphere. By the time the weekend is over, you’ll be tuned up and ready for the Romoland Trial the following weekend. 

This event will debut an additional pine forest camping area, as well as a new door on the outhouse.  All thirteen sections have been test ridden and approved by the Full Monty set-up team, an esteemed group boasting over 175 years combined trials experience!  Plus, all the sections are spectator friendly and within walking distance.  In preparation for this gala event, each has been raked, groomed, tuned, flagged, tagged, manicured, fluffed and sanitized for your trials riding enjoyment! 

Souvenir magnets and the now classic laser etched dog tags will be available to all participants. 

Saturday evening will feature an outdoor taco party by world renowned Tacolero Jonathan Graham.  Don’t forget to register if you plan on attending.    

Note: There is no cell service at camp, but it is (usually) available just a short 1.5 mile ride away

Depending upon how sore and beat-up everyone is, there may be an organized Sunday AM trail ride to either the F-105 jet crash site, or the Eagle’s Nest on Sorel Peak. 

ROAD CONDITION / DISCLAIMER:  Getting to the trials site involves a (7) mile drive up a mountain dirt road (Piute Mountain Road).  There are two steep sections about 100 yards long, and a couple of soft dirt switchbacks.  The road is in good shape now, and a normal 2WD passenger car can make it with no problem whatsoever. Recently I saw several semi-trucks with trailers drive the road in both directions.  A pickup pulling up to a 26 foot trailer should be fine, but you might need 4 wheel drive on a couple of the switchbacks due to the powdery dirt.  I strongly advise against driving any Class A motorhome because the trip back down would be a real brake burner!  However, I can tell you that several friends have recently driven their Class C motorhomes up and down the mountain, both towing bike trailers.  If you have any questions, please give me a shout.

There are several ways to get to the Piute Palace. Depending on where you’re coming from.  If driving in from the South, the Jawbone Canyon route is shorter but involves about 20 miles of washboard dirt road and is not at all recommended for camp trailers or motorhomes.  The Walker Pass route is almost 50 miles longer but only adds about a half hour due to the much faster speed average.
